The Hanifaru Bay Experience

Hanifaru Bay is a keyhole-shaped marine sanctuary measuring 700 meters by 200 meters – a natural plankton trap created by unique tidal currents. When conditions align, witness the breathtaking “cyclone feeding” phenomenon where 50 or more manta rays form spectacular spiraling vortexes as they filter-feed together. Over 1,800 individual manta rays have been catalogued here through 18 years of scientific research by the Maldivian Manta Ray Project.
